You are considering this absolutely stunning rollei 35, miniature rangefinder-style 35mm camera with its equally stunning carl zeiss 40mm f/3.5 tessar lens. It is in 98% of new condition. The only reason i don't rate it as 99% is because of a couple of tiny finish rubs on the bottom plate. Other than that i see little, if any evidence of use.
No paint loss or rubs. No bright spots in the chrome. The only concern (and it's a common concern) is that the shutter speeds 1/15th second and slower act like the'b' setting. Meaning the shutter blades remain open until your finger is removed from the shutter button. This is almost certainly a lubrication issue and is easily corrected. I will let the next owner decide whether or not to perform this service.
All other shutter speeds are spot-on. As you are no doubt aware, mint condition examples (like this one) without the shutter speed concern, sell for $279+.I'm going to knock off $100 to help with a servicing. I found the following online. The rollei 35 is a series of 35mm viewfinder cameras, designed for rollei by heinz waaske. The rollei 35 held the title of smallest full-frame 35mm camera in the world for some time. A breakthrough design by heinz waaske, the first rollei 35 appeared in 1966 in direct competition with the half frame format that was introduced in 1961. Almost every aspect of the camera was specially designed with the aim of making it as compact as possible. The shutter was made by compur but to a design by waaske permitting a collapsible lens to be used. Gossen supplied the cds exposure meter used to save space. The 35 was produced in germany and, from 1971, in singapore. There is a perception that the german produced 35's are better and command a higher price, in fact camera repair men report that quality control at rollei singapore was on a par with germany and there is no difference. Singapore rollei 35's came with two types of lens: scheider s-xenar or carl zeiss german tessar. Bright line with no focusing aid or supplementary information (later cameras had led exposure setting in the viewfinder). The viewfinder was redesigned at the end of 1970 and the magnification factor was changed from 0.8 to 0.62. Match needle meter display in top plate, aperture & shutter controls linked to follow pointer (led viewfinder display in later cameras). From the end of 1971 onwards in singapore.
