John redfern antique late 1800s early 1900's ornate coat/robe rare, mint couture. A fabulous antique coat by the renowned fashion house and tailors redfern. Rarely brought to the market, i have the pleasure of offering this beauty that in my opinion is museum worthy. The coat is fashioned from a black silk taffeta, and lined with pale green satin.A simple design, with a beautifully curved hemline, the details are fantastic. The front is embellished with ornate cord work, in beautiful designs as the photos will explain. The upper coat has a wonderful "trellis" work design made from woven braids backed with silk chiffon where the green lining shows through, it is ingenious and beautiful. The coat fastens with a series of concealed hook and eyes.
The back panel has the same detailing and a very deep open vent in the centre, embellished with cord and ornate frogging. The hemline is scalloped, and is longer towards the centre back. The inner lining has two internal pockets, one to each side. This beautiful coat bears the parisian couture label, and dates from around the late 1800's early 1900s the fashion house in paris opened in 1880. John redfern, was a british tailoring firm founded in 1820 in cowes on the isle of wight.Redfern developed into a leading european couture house (active: 18551932; 19361940). By the early 1890s the business had branches in london, edinburgh, paris and new york. As operated purely as a couture establishment while its other branches functioned primarily as tailors.
Measurements laid flat across front, please double where appropriate. Length from front shoulder 43. The condition is almost excellent. Some bronzing to the corded trim, commensurate with age. Near the left shoulder seam is a tiny break hole, which is so small as to be negligible. The label has some purple dye, or ink. Otherwise this antique beauty is superb. Please feel free to ask if you need more information and or photos x. This item is made of silk and satin.
