Along with this, the photos of the very clean interior and underside most likely reveal that the typewriter along with its original carrying case have rarely been used. The slightly distressed but intact original sticker near the back right side shows that this is a smith-corona portable typewriter series 5te rated at 115 volts a.60 cycle 40 watts with "radio interference free" near the bottom. While the slightly distressed steel body of the typewriter is very similar to olive or sea-foam, references refer to the color as mint green. The beautiful mint green body has white to off-white trim that matches the keys.
In addition to the mint green with white to off-white trim, the retro mid-century styling is noticed even more in the shiny chrome and silver accents. Even more, the incredibly attractive aesthetics of the typewriter are further enhanced by its slightly distressed rich brown/burnt-orange carrying case. According to the original card, the brown/burnt-orange hard shell is technically referred to as a "holiday" carrying case. Since the hard shell is non-magnetic, it is most likely aluminum which is very consistent with the obvious brushed-aluminum trim where the two halves come together. While the case appears to be aluminum, the handle mounts, locking mechanism, four feet on the bottom, and dual hinges are steel.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. The small white "electric" badge was repaired with a drop of adhesive as it was a little loose in its slot and had separated in one little area.
Other than that, there are no breaks, cracks, dents, or repair places on this gorgeous 1950's smith-corona portable electric typewriter or its original "holiday" carrying case. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the typewriter and case - mainly in the form of slight distress and age.As previously noted, while the typewriter appears to be in good working condition, some of the typing keys are a little slow in returning or get stuck. Hence, the keys and possibly the machine in general may need lubricating and/or adjusting before heavy use.
Also, while the ribbon is still intact on the rolls inside the machine and looks barely used, it is possible the ink is dry due to age and/or climate. In addition, the original gray electrical cord along with its original non-polarized plug-in is in very good working condition.
While the cord is very clean, the outer plastic skin of the cord shows some distress from where the typewriter sat on the cord inside the carrying case. In addition, the two included keys and the locking mechanism are in great working condition.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous 1950's smith-corona portable electric typewriter along and "holiday" carrying case are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this mint green smith-corona typewriter. Also, the entryway table or home office would welcome this aesthetically attractive smith-corona typewriter and case for its stunning retro mid-century styling along with its mint green and rich brown/burnt-orange color combination. In addition, the growing collection of vintage and mid-century instruments would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this rare series 5te smith-corona portable electric typewriter with its original "holiday" case and included keys. The collector will appreciate this gorgeous 1950's smith-corona portable electric series 5te typewriter and original hard shell carrying case for their great condition, rich mint green and brown/burnt-orange color palette, retro mid-century styling, chrome and silver accents, very clean interior and underside, working lock mechanism, two included keys, atomic age charm, and beautiful overall appearance. The 1950's smith-corona portable electric typewriter in the original hard shell carrying case weighs approximately 373 oz. The gorgeous brown/burnt-orange smith-corona hard shell "holiday" carrying case measures approximately 13.5" tall to the top of the case or 156" tall to the top of the raised handle x 13 5/16" wide from outside to outside x 6.25" deep. However, please check with me to make sure as sometimes there could be system errors. Note on measurements: all measurements are taken and described as close as possible.
Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing. Our measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned. The bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the bust by two.
We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance. Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than i may be able to explain. Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity. The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up. As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While i do personally inspect each item, i can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, i try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront. Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know. We are dedicated to our customers and always strive for your satisfaction. To see other treasures similar to this one - please click here.
